1) Main character is a standout individual – Usually very out spoken personality or an outcast of some kind.
2) Epic Goal – The protagonist has some kind of ultimate goal. This goal most of the time seems impossible and the protagonist is mocked for their foolish wishes/dreams.
I really enjoy anime. The world has always shown great enjoyment, for tales from the “Epic” genre. Many of the anime tv shows fall under the “Epic” genre. Take “One Piece” for example…it currently is on it’s 601 episode!! Unlike North American shows, that seem to get cancelled ALL THE DAMN TIME.
These shows are taken from Mangas (Japanese comics) and are pretty similar to bildungsromans.

That is another common theme in animes/mangas, the characters usually start out as kids and grow into adults. For example “Naruto” I think is at 600 episodes right now and 300 are dedicated to him as a youth while the other 300 is him as a teenager.
Now I think North American ADD prevents people from even thinking that any show can be enjoyed for that long (600+)….I disagree, people just need to chill and stop pretending they critics. Just enjoy this shit (JETS).
