Let the Dream Chasing Begin

Let the Dream Chasing Begin

Yes!!! I have begun my journey to leave Canada to teach abroad.  I really want to see the world more than that I want to interact with different people.  I have stifled myself by staying in Canada my whole life and I feel like it is time to leave here for a while and experience new things.

Do not get it twisted I am scared as shit!!! But I feel like if your not nervous about something it can’t be that big!

Been checking out a few companies to work for and I still have a whole bunch of research to do as well.

Also I figure it is easier to write my dreams on here rather than brag about it to individuals…people nowadays are such a BUZZ KILL!!!

Penny Dreadfuls

Penny Dreadfuls

What are Penny Dreadfuls? Well, they a type of publication designed for the poor working class in Britain.  These stories were mostly published around the mid-late 19th century.

The stories were in magazines, which were published with inexpensive material.  Think about it, if the target audience was the “poor working class” you wouldn’t be making much money if your production costs were high.  Most of the authors of these stories were viewed by society and their peers as low-quality or “hack” authors .

The stories really remind me of Tales from the Crypt type stories.  They cover a variety of taboo subjects, from cannibalism to same sex marriage.  The tale does not usually include heroes, mostly villains.  Also common to the Tales from the Crypt theme, the Penny Dreadful tales often convey messages of morality.  I guess you could kind of call them morality tales if you wanted.

The one difference to Tales from the Crypt is that the Penny Dreadful stories, or at least the ones I have read, include realism.  There are no supernatural themed episodes.  The characters and plot are all situated through events, that could possibly occur in real life.

I find that the stories are often narrated as testimonials, as if someone witnessed it first hand.

I will add a link to one of my favourite tales below.

The Fresh Prince was a Goofy Nigger….

The Fresh Prince was a Goofy Nigger….

Yes he was.

Re-watching some of the episodes made me notices certain critical aspects of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”

After watching the first episode again it dawned on me that Will’s character, even though watered down, is suppose to be the stereotypical ignorant nigger.

Now because the show is a family show a lot of his antics are “familizied”. Alot of his attitudes suit a PG or G audience, if the show was on HBO you can guarantee he’d be having unprotected sex in his uncle and aunt’s bedroom, while smoking weed.

Now the greatest thing I love about this show is that is displays the progress of one immature, flamboyant individual into a man.  By the end of the series Will is no longer on the “nigger shit”.  With the help of his new surroundings he is able to develop into his own person.  Though his surroundings are a posh Bel-Air environment, it differs from the previous harsh restrictions of his old neighbourhood in Philadelphia.  In definitions of the show Will could not make it out in Philly, hence his shipment to his new home.

This is a quick summary of my ideas.  I probably will end up buying the seasons and making more specific references to my claims.
