Day 3 aka Happy Birthday Dwayne

Day 3 aka Happy Birthday Dwayne

My third day in Japan and its my Birthday no less.

Today I decided to take a day trip to Kyoto. Kyoto is littered with temples, I am pretty sure there’s more than 30. The town isn’t even that big so its quite impressive. I think I got around most of town within 4 hours.

Getting to Kyoto wasn’t difficult, understanding the bus system was pretty easy too. Kyoto is practically built for tourism. Many of the shops have English sub titles and menus.

The bus systems make Toronto and Mississauga look lame. Kyoto is like a country town and the bus system is light years ahead of one of the biggest cities in North American

I visited a few Temples and even chatted with locals. One of the children hanging around one of the temples wanted to practice his English with me, I was obliged. The rest of his friends thought he was brave for even asking me.

I just enjoy breathing here…

Tomorrow I want to return to this tiny little bar I visited on my second day here.

Day 2

Day 2: I took a walk to a place called Utsubo park today. I sat there for a few hours and read Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. I think I was there for about three hours. I snacked on a sandwich I had bought earlier at a convenience store. Oh and 7/11s here are nothing like back home. They seem to actually care about freshness. here There are no rotten chilli dogs either.

I cannot get enough of how clean it is here, I haven’t seen one person even spit on the ground.

After my reading and lunch i hiked over to Osaka Castle, it was closed by the time I got there but I was still able to get some greats shots of it from outside.

It was an early day today, night time fell around 5:30pm and I ducked into a restaurant and don’t even know what I had. It was a bowl of ric,e beef shredded cheese and some mystery powder, most importantly it tasted great.

I was going to do more walking tonight but I was pretty tired and fell asleep ( I only got up to finish this journal entry).

Tomorrow I am going to head up to Kyoto and visit a few temples. It is going to be very interesting I am sure. That reminds me that I will have to get the hotel staff to write a few of the temple’s names in Japanese characters for me so I can at least ask for directions in Kyoto.

“Happy Birthday to ME” it’s 11:26pm December 9th. I’ll probably be asleep once it turns midnight. I should remember to by myself something special in Kyoto.

Day 1

Day 1 in Osaka was amazing!!! One day here and I am already sold on this country! It is possible that I am getting a little a head of myself but comparing my interactions with folks here to my previous experiences home I have to say there is an obvious differece.

It is not just the people either, the air is different, when I breathe it, I feel it. It’s difficult to explain and believe me I try not to over think things but this place has an effect on me…well at least right now it does and I rather not burst this bubble until it truly needs to be popped.

This morning I watched about 2 hours of Japanese television. Had no idea what they were saying or what was going on but it was nice just to sit and not have to compute what was going on….I was able to simply…be.

Sit there and enjoy it, even if I didn’t know what was going on.

I even wrote a little something about Japan today, nothing spectacular just my thoughs.

Everything the same but different
Stares wondering who amI
Life grant an instant
Eternally Japan
